Aarong Bangladesh Fashion Week


Anybody who is somebody was there at the first ever dazzling Aarong Bangladesh Fashion Week, held on July 3 and 4. Chief guest and entrepreneur Rokia A Rahman inaugurated the fashion meet.
In the spotlight were the superb works of eight Bangladeshi and six Indian designers. Day one started off with six designers: four from Bangladesh and two from India. The first day featured designs from Maheen Khan, Anamika Khanna, Aneela Haque, Kumudini, Kiran Uttam Ghosh and Rina Latif.
Well-known media personality Shobha De spoke about similar fashion shows in India and how they had shaped the history of design. She felt that Bangladesh's fashion and design scenes had immense potential.
The second day featured the works of the top Bangladeshi and Indian talents such as Bibi Russell, Satya Paul, Kuhu, Lita S. Chowhury, Mona Pali, Abhishekh Gupta, Nandita Basu and Aarong.
Some of the eye-catching creations were those of Maheen Khan, Aneela Haq Rina Latif and Kumudini. Maheen, who runs Mayasir, regaled the audience with her blend of the 60s and 70s. Likewise Aneeela Haque displayed the chic creations of Andes' Fusion, while Kumudini gave a classical note to the evening with its works in Nakshi Kantha, embroidered quilt and Jamdani. Rina Latif's work focused on the timeless Muslin fused with Kataan, Silk and Chiffon.
Kiran Uttam Ghosh's Kimono and Anamika Khanna's trendy pieces were from India.
Presented by TARA in collaboration with Siemens, DHL and RC Cola, the event took place at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel. Organised by the Bangladesh Fashion Alliance, the show ended yesterday.
